The prevalence of USPS, UPS and FedEx truck loading activity right in the middle of the 34th Avenue open-street intersections illustrates in a nutshell what's so badly wrong with how public space is allocated in NYC. The vast majority of the actual curb space in the neighborhood is allocated to free car storage, so needed deliveries have to be done using decidedly makeshift strategies, threatening everyone's safety in the process.
USPS mail trucks have the habit of parking right in the crosswalks, for lack of loading space on the street itself. This severely impedes pedestrian and driver visibility, and endangers schoolchildren and anyone else attempting to cross the street.
There is a hotel and a grocery store here, both of which require frequent vehicle access, yet this block is mostly parking with a 1-car-wide nominal loading area that is constantly occupied. As a result, Q32 and Q60 buses get stuck behind double parked vehicles. A classic example of prioritizing free car storage in a place where it makes zero sense, showing utter contempt for delivery workers, TLC drivers, hotel patrons, and bus riders.
There are regularly cars double-parked here to pick up food from the restaurant on the corner (Sweet Chick). A loading zone could help avoid double-parking, especially in the bike lane.
Delivery vehicles often double park and blocks one way single lane for traffic. Creates blocked lane preventing from emergency vehicles to pass through. Also it creates frustrations with noise from other vehicles honking
The triangle of 37th Avenue, 74th Street and Broadway in Jackson Heights is one of the most hellish double-parking gauntlets I have ever seen in any city in the world. The allocation of curb space in this area is woefully out of line with reality: the incredibly dense concentration of businesses that give this area its character require constant curb access for deliveries and customer pickups (of large grocery and merchandise orders, requiring a car, due to the nature of the businesses) at all hours, late into the night. However, most of this activity happens in the travel lane, slowing traffic to a halt on all of these streets. Taking the Q47/Q49 on 74th sometimes takes 10 minutes to go the single block. The Q70 to LaGuardia Airport takes 10 minutes to travel the 3 blocks to the highway entrance, doubling the trip to the airport. And driving home from anywhere and exiting onto 37th Avenue for the final few blocks to our apartment is a horrible, nasty and dangerous experience, slaloming between double parked vehicles in heavy traffic. Crossing these streets as a pedestrian is harrowing as visibility is restricted severely. All three of these streets within this triangle should have ALL parking COMPLETELY REMOVED in favor of full-block loading space, from 10am to midnight. Anything short of this will not solve the problem and will continue to make our quality of life miserable.
We need more loading zones on the residential streets of Jackson Heights. On my block of 77th Street, at any given time during the weekday, 2-3 commercial vehicles need to be doing something on the block: delivering mail or packages, repairs and contractors, etc. Which means any time a larger truck comes through, it gets stuck, traffic stops and we are treated to a symphony of horn honking or continuous sirens that often goes on for over 10 minutes. This happens about 3-4 times on the average weekday, making it impossible to work from home, which is part of the reason I had to rent a co-working space outside the neighborhood. And when I'm the one waiting for a repair person, I have to go back and forth via text sometimes for 2 hours as they look for a spot on the block to park for 15 minutes while fixing my dishwasher - so the 15 minute repair eats up half a day of my and the repair person's valuable time. All so that we can have 2-3 spots of additional free car storage, which my family subsidizes via our high taxes but doesn't use. I cannot think of a more supremely ridiculous and idiotic way of allocating a city's public space.

Dark gray BMW with New Jersey plates H60.SJW is parked at the W 72 / Columbus Ave bus stop which is causing traffic and congestion issues at the corner and makes the bus stop unsafe. Not a parking spot.
