NYC DOT celebrated BiketoberfestNYC by holding a Commuter Assistance Station at the 78th St Plaza in Jackson Heights.

NYC DOT held Get Pumped! Pop Up Commuter Assistance Stations as part of #biketoberfestnyc cycling promotions in October. The Street Ambassadors held a bike light and bell giveaway and offered safety education, bike maps, and bike smart guides to cyclists as part of Get Pumped!

DOT tabled at the annual Queens Hispanic Day Parade to discuss biking in Queens and the Big Jump. The parade on 37th Avenue span from 69th St to 86th St, a popular destination for locals. Our Spanish-speaking Street Ambassadors were on site to best communicate with such a diverse crowd.

It was such a great event celebrating Latin culture in Corona. Thank you to everyone that stopped by our tent and left a comment on our feedback boards and picked up a palm card on the project.

Returning to Jackson Heights, DOT stationed outside of the busy subway station at Roosevelt Ave-Jackson Heights to discuss the Big Jump project and to hear from commuters about their views on biking. We heard from those that currently bike and those that don’t and what their issues were.

The Street Ambassadors visited the Jackson Heights Greenmarket and had conversations with market-goers about their feelings on biking and the existing bike network.

DOT Safety Education and Queens Borough Commissioner’s office performed outreach at the annual Queens Community Board 3 Health Fair. The team collected emails from people who wanted to receive updates regarding the Big Jump project.

DOT tabled at the Queens Pride Festival held in Jackson Heights. Street Ambassadors explained the goals for the Big Jump project to festival-goers and signed up 125 people to our mailing list.

DOT partnered with the 115th NYPD Precinct on a bike light giveaway in Corona. Staff were stationed at the corner of Roosevelt Ave and 108th St and spoke with cyclists and pedestrians about NYC biking laws.
