Greenways provide safe and accessible corridors for transportation and active recreation through parks and on streets. NYC DOT is responsible for the planning, design and implementation of greenways on city streets.

The project will create a safer and smoother connection for bicyclists entering Kissena Park by installing a two-way, concrete-barrier-protected bike lane on Utopia Parkway.

NYC DOT is currently implementing safety improvements on Utopia Parkway from Underhill Avenue to Peck Avenue. The project will create a safer and smoother connection for bicyclists entering Kissena Park by installing a two-way, concrete-barrier-protected bike lane on Utopia Parkway. In addition, pedestrian ramps and concrete islands will make the area safer for pedestrians and cyclists alike.

This project constitutes one piece of NYC Parks and NYC DOT’s larger strategy around the Kissena Park Corridor as outlined in their Destination: Greenways! Plan in 2021. Overall, the study (and its subsequent projects) aims to render green spaces easier and safer to access for all visitors, and to fill gaps in the existing bike and greenway system.
