Electric Charging Station Wanted

70 Nelson St (Hamilton Ave)

Please add a charger here. Since the Court St charger was lost to the street redesign, the nearest working public options are Park Slope, IKEA, or Williamsburg, which means leaving a car overnight in another neighborhood and taking the subway or a cab home. A side-street location like this one on Nelson is well suited for overnight residential charging without touching the busier Hamilton Ave or Court St corridors, and having two sites along Nelson would give the area some basic redundancy when one charger is occupied or out of service. Please build it.

26 Verona St (Richards St)

I support a charger at this location. Verona St is exactly the kind of quiet side street that works well for curbside charging: away from the busiest corridors, so cars plugged in overnight will not affect traffic, and within easy walking distance for Red Hook residents. Fast chargers in the IKEA lot would be a nice addition but are not a substitute, since residents without driveways need Level 2 charging near home where a car can sit overnight, not a 30 minute fast charge session in a store parking lot. With the new school and continued waterfront development bringing more households to this area, demand for home-adjacent charging will only grow. Please build this one.

I strongly support a charger at this location. Since the Court St and 1st Pl charger was made unusable by the street redesign, Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, and Gowanus have had no working public charging at all. This site is well placed to fix that: it is close to the Smith St subway, the Court St commercial corridor, and dense residential blocks on both sides, so it will get overnight residential use as well as daytime turnover. Of the proposed sites in this zone it is one of the few in the walkable core of the neighborhood rather than under or alongside the BQE, which matters for people plugging in overnight. Please build this one, and please also restore working charging on or near Court St.

I live nearby on Woodhull St and strongly support a charger at this location. The Columbia Waterfront, Carroll Gardens, and Cobble Hill currently have zero working public chargers since the Court St unit was made unusable by the street redesign. The nearest options are Park Slope or Ikea, which means leaving the car overnight and taking a cab or subway home. This intersection is a practical midpoint serving Columbia Waterfront, Carroll Gardens, and Red Hook, with easy access from the BQE. A charger here would see constant use and would make EV ownership viable for households like mine that are otherwise pushed back toward gas.
